Which cracks actually matter
Here is roughly how we sort them when we walk a wall.

Rule of thumb on width: under 1/16 inch is hairline. Past 1/8 inch and still widening is worth an in-person look.
Why Valley stucco cracks more than most places
It is the daily swing. Phoenix routinely runs 30 to 40 degrees between afternoon and pre-dawn, and stucco expands and contracts with every cycle. Do that 365 times a year for twenty years and the material fatigues. Summer surface temperatures on a west-facing wall go far past the air temperature, which makes it worse.
Add UV breaking down the finish coat, single-digit humidity pulling moisture out during curing, and monsoon rain driving water sideways into whatever gaps have opened up.
The other big one is expansion joints. Stucco needs somewhere to move, roughly every 10 to 15 feet. A lot of Valley homes, especially from the fast-build years, went up with too few or none at all. The wall ends up making its own joint, and that long straight crack is the result. More on expansion joints
Cracks and your HOA
A large share of our crack work starts with a letter. Valley HOAs cite cracked and stained stucco constantly, and the compliance window is usually 30 days.
Two things worth knowing. First, most HOAs require color approval before you repaint, so if the repair involves painting an elevation, start that submission early. Second, a repair that is not color matched properly can draw a second letter, which is how people end up paying twice. We match to the approved palette and to what your wall has actually faded to, which are rarely the same thing.

Cracks, scorpions and roof rats
Worth saying plainly because homeowners ask and most sites will not touch it.
Bark scorpions get through gaps as thin as a credit card. Cracks at the base of a wall, gaps around hose bibs and conduit, and separations where the stucco meets the weep screed are all entry points. Roof rats use bigger openings, especially where foam trim has broken away near the roofline.
Sealing stucco properly will not solve a pest problem on its own, but an unsealed wall undoes a lot of what your pest service is doing. If that is part of why you are calling, tell us and we will pay attention to the base of the wall and every penetration.
How we repair them
Hairline and spider cracks. Clean the crack out, apply a flexible elastomeric sealant that moves with the wall instead of cracking alongside it, then texture and color match over the top. Rigid filler in a moving crack just cracks again, usually within a season.
Wider cracks. We open it up slightly to get a proper key, which sounds backwards but gives the repair something to hold. Patch, cure, texture, blend.
Cracks with movement behind them. Filling these without addressing the cause is throwing money at it. Sometimes it is a control joint that needs cutting in properly. Sometimes it is past stucco and you need a different trade, and we will tell you that rather than take the job.

Common questions
Will I be able to see the repair?
If it is done right, not from a few feet away. Matching a wall that has been fading for twenty years is the hard part of this job and it is where we spend our time. Fresh material is never a perfect match on day one, but it settles in over the first year.
Can I just caulk it myself?
For a hairline crack, honestly, sometimes yes. Use an elastomeric sealant rated for stucco, not standard painter caulk, and do not do it in July when the surface is too hot to bond. The catch is texture. A smooth bead of caulk across a lace finish is more visible than the crack was.
Will the crack come back?
If it is a thermal crack sealed with a flexible product, generally no. If there is movement behind it and the cause has not been addressed, yes. That is why we look before quoting.
How long does it take?
Most crack repairs are a single day. Larger work with cure time between coats runs two to three days, though we are not on site the whole time.
Should I repair before painting?
Yes, always. Paint over an open crack and it telegraphs through by the next monsoon. More on painting
My neighbors all have the same cracks. Is that normal?
Usually, yes. Homes built in the same tract, the same year, by the same crew, with the same joint spacing tend to fail the same way at the same age. It is not reassuring, but it does mean it is probably thermal rather than structural.
